Paul's sister Kim (Sarah Jessica Parker) is having trouble with her teenage daughter Hailey (Abigail Breslin) who wants to spend New Year's Eve with her friends and her boyfriend Seth (Jake T. Austin) in Times Square. Paul's friend, comic book illustrator Randy (Ashton Kutcher), who hates New Year's Eve after his girlfriend left him on a date, gets stuck in an elevator with Elise (Lea Michele), an aspiring singer who will be providing back-up for musician Jensen (Jon Bon Jovi) in his show at the Ahern Records ball, where he rekindles his feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Laura (Katherine Heigl).
At a nearby hospital, Stan Harris (Robert De Niro), a man in the final stages of cancer who refuses chemotherapy and who only wishes to see the ball drop one last time, is kept company by Nurse Aimee (Halle Berry) and Nurse Mindy (Alyssa Milano) after his doctor (Cary Elwes) reveals he will not last much longer. In the same hospital, a young couple, Griffin (Seth Meyers) and Tess (Jessica Biel), about to have their first child, competes with another couple, James (Til Schweiger) and Grace (Sarah Paulson), for a bonus offered for the family of the first child born in the new year. Elsewhere, Sam (Josh Duhamel), a businessman from Ahern Records, attempts to go to the Ahern Records Ball, where he is to deliver an important speech, after his car malfunctions on the other side of New York, all the while wondering if he should attend a meeting with a mysterious woman he met and fell in love with on the previous New Year's Eve.
As midnight approaches, one of the billboard lights of the Times Square panel malfunctions, jamming the ball and forcing Claire to call Kominsky (Héctor Elizondo), an electrician, who the company had fired a few weeks prior. Kominsky repairs the ball seconds before midnight, and, in gratitude, Claire leaves him in charge of the operation, and rushes to see the ball drop with her father, Stan. Meanwhile, Nurse Aimee has a video conference with her husband (Common), a soldier serving in Afghanistan.
Paul helps Ingrid complete all the items on her list, and she gives him the tickets. Meanwhile, Randy and Elise bond, and, as they are about to kiss, the elevator is repaired and Elise rushes to Jensen's show. Randy notices she forgot her rubber band and rushes to give it to her. At the Ball, Jensen leaves midway during the show and apologizes to Laura, who accepts him back and leaves with the approval of her assistant, Sous Chef Ava (Sofia Vergara). With Jensen gone, Elise is called to replace him and attracts the attention of the crowd. She kisses Randy, and they start a romantic relationship.
Griffin and Tess have their baby and, although it is born first, they allow James and Grace to have the bonus after discovering they actually have three children. Meanwhile, after being forbidden from attending the celebration, Hailey runs away to Times Square, where she sees Seth being kissed by another girl. Heartbroken, she meets and is comforted by her mother. Seth finds them and apologizes, claiming the girl stole a kiss from him. Hailey forgives him and Seth kisses her. Her mother allows her to go to an after-party. Kim then goes to a restaurant to meet Sam, who had succeeded in delivering his speech. She is the mysterious woman he met one year prior, and they finally discover each other's names.

Synopsis:
Two young American men travel to Moscow to sell their social networking/party finding software only to find their software is already being sold by the Russian team they were to sell it to, led by a Swedish businessman. While commiserating in the company of attractive women they and many other people see an aurora-like apparition in the sky. Some of this light breaks off and lands nearby and when approached it disintegrates the human who approached it. More lights fall and aliens, invisible and protected by force fields, start attacking.
The two Americans, the Swedish businessman and two women hide for several days. When they leave their hideout, they notice that electrical devices activate when an invisible alien is near and they soon learn to use light bulbs as detectors since the bulb will glow when aliens approach.
The group learns that the entire world has apparently been invaded. The Swedish businessman is killed and the remainder head towards a light in the distance. The light is coming from a building in which there is a woman and a man, the latter of whom has constructed a Faraday cage that keeps the aliens out as well as a microwave device that he expects will help fight the aliens.
Despite suffering casualties, they meet up with Russian police who manage to wound an alien with conventional weapons. The policemen believe that the aliens are strip mining Earth for metal.
The survivors in the group make it to a submarine and build another microwave gun with the help of the crew, and plan to spread to other survivors their knowledge about how to fight the invaders effectively. They learn that Parisians have managed to destroy one of the alien mining towers and the film ends on a hopeful note.

The film profiles Michael Perry, a man on death row convicted murdering a fifty year old nurse. He was suspected, but never charged, in two other murders which occurred in Conroe, Texas, with his accomplice Jason Burkett. Perry was convicted 10 years earlier of the October 2001 murder, apparently committed in order to steal a car for a joyride. Perry denies that he was responsible for the killings, blaming Burkett (also appearing in the film) who was convicted of the other two murders. Burkett, who received a lesser life sentence for his involvement, likewise blames Perry.
Perry's final interviews for the film were recorded only 8 days before his execution on July 1, 2010. The film also includes interviews with victims' families and law enforcement officers.
Burkett's wife appears in the film, a free woman who met and married Burkett after his conviction. They were only allowed contact by holding hands under guarded supervision, but she claims to be pregnant with his child.
The film does not focus on Perry's guilt or innocence, and has a minimal amount of narration, with Herzog, unlike in many of his films, never appearing onscreen.

He takes a break from his work to go on a trip with three friends. He admits to his friend Sophia (Nicole Vicius) that he loves her - but shortly after this she falls into a nearby lake and drowns.
Using the methods from his research project he is able to revive her, but the process requires that he extract the hormone Oxytocin from a recently-dead corpse. He murders two women, and attempts to murder a third, in the process of keeping Sophia alive. His actions arouse the suspicion of his friends and the campus police.
In a twist at the end of the film, Sophia remembers the circumstances of her death, which changes the audience's perceptions of the actions of one of the main characters in the story.

Set in the near future, the film opens with pandemonium and a chaotic sprint towards the basement of a New York apartment building, just moments before the city outside is destroyed.
When a cataclysmic nuclear bombing devastates New York and kills millions, eight strangers take refuge in the basement of their apartment building, a converted fallout shelter designed by their paranoid superintendent Mickey. With just three connecting rooms it is barely big enough, but with stockpiles of food and water, the group is at least safe from the horrors outside, and they settle in and attempt to fathom the catastrophe that has ended the lives of so many of their loved ones.
But suddenly men in HAZMAT suits storm their shelter and open fire. The strangers join forces in a desperate bid to take on this enemy, with no-one understanding what these HAZMATS are looking for, and what drives them to be so merciless.
With fatalities on both sides and the remaining HAZMATS temporarily pushed back and locked out, the worst is yet to come for the group. Cabin fever sets in as the perception of the shelter shifts from safe-haven to claustrophobic rat-trap. Fear of radiation-poisoning and dwindling supplies play on their minds, while the young, beautiful Eva has more immediate worries. Her fiancé Sam is weaker than the other males, who are slowly starting to regress into ruthless, violent, predators.
As tension mounts their sanctuary becomes a living hell, and with Sam powerless to protect Eva, she must rely on her wits to save herself from becoming a victim of the pack.
